One of the first things I did with my new ASUS EeePC 901Go was to install my familiar Debian GNU/Linux environment on the little box. (Ok, the very first thing was to upgrade the RAM by changing the 1GB PC5300 SODIMM to a 2GB model

I found a new tech gadget that’s great as travel companion!
I’m talking about the “ASUS EeePC 901Go 16G Linux”. It’s a small 8.9″ notebook with a 16GB SSD and a G3.5 UMTS modem on-board.
I did tinker with the idea of buying such a companion for a long time now, but did not find the perfect model until now. Either the screen was too small (7″), the overall size was too big (with >= 10″ screen), a very slow processer was inside, the battery life was too short or the notebook had Windows preinstalled (I don’t like to be forced to pay the Microsoft tax)…
I’m using Linux on my “normal” notebook as well as on my desktop PC, so I’d like to have my well-known Linux environment (Debian) on this small gadget, too.
If you like my work, buy me a beer. (Suggested: 3€ for a beer, or more for more beer ;-) )Philips Pronto – a great toy (not only) for geeks
Monday, January 12th, 2009If you are searching for a perfect remote control, take a look at the new Philips Pronto Series.
It includes a big touchscreen TFT, many useful firmkeys, can send IR commands, has build-in WiFi and can connect to RS232 by using an optional extender.
You can fully customize the remote control by using ProntoScript, that’s basically JavaScript/ECMAScript (ECMA262 & ECMA357 to be precise) with some API enhancements by Philips.
A very useful site for informations about the Pronto and ProntoScript (see the forum!) is http://www.remotecentral.com.
I’m sorry if this sounds like advertising, but I’m so excited about this gadget…
