    hi,
I own a Slimdevice Transporter and your application likes me a lot, but i waiting for my Nexus one to try it.
I would like to know if i can transcode the Flac file from my squeezeserver to the sd card. for exemple my Flac album would be transcode to ogg 192 for more space into my phone sd card ?

thanks a lot and very gook work

    Eric, from Paris

  2. flattermann says:

SqueezeCommander cannot transcode the files while downloading, i.e. they will be stored on the SD card as they are on your server.
At the moment, the SqueezeBoxServer cannot transcode the files on-the-fly while downloading them with SqueezeCommander.
If that would be possible, it would be a great enhancement!

    https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8808

Furthermore, Android does not support FLAC playback yet. :-(

  3. Tom says:

i’ve downloaded and paid for your app last night. I am experiencing many times that the players constantly disconnect. “connection lost with player” this happens many many times. also happens when i use “add songs in this genre”. and many force close. I have a TMO G1 phone. I would like to keep this app, but not very consistent on being up. any suggestions

  4. flattermann says:

Well, that’s really strange, because the current version should run pretty stable…

Are you using a local SqueezeBoxServer or MySqueezeBox.com?
    MySqueezeBox.com had many problems recently…

BTW: If you encounter a crash, SqueezeCommander should ask you to send in the CrashReport on the next start. Please allow this reporting, because this will make it much easier for me to find the problem.

  5. Tom says:

Yes, i tried to send crash report, but couldn’t. it auto discovered my pc running slim. but i also have an account on squeezecenter – which i tried to get through and was able to briefly connect to internet radio. plus lots of stuck ‘loading…’. then when swiping to other screen left or right, then it says ‘application sc is not responding” force close or wait…

long loading periods for artist or albums or songs…. since writing this i keep seeing lost connection to player, then it comes back on. I am less than 8 feet from my wirelss router. PC is 4 feet away and player is 14 feet away.
any advise on what I can do. i really want this to work…

  6. flattermann says:

Hmm. If you control your SqueezeBoxes via Browser/WebUI (http://yourserver:9000/), that works flawlessly?

Have you tried to shutdown and restart everything (PC/SqueezeBox/Cellphone/Router)?

BTW: Please drop me a line at
    android (AT) flattermann (DOT) net

and I’ll send you a beta version of SqueezeCommander with enhanced logging. This will hopefully help to find a solution for this issue.

  7. Luuk says:

    Hi Christian,

Great little app. One small point though, when trying to change the volume on the screen on my HTC Hero I tend to move to the screen preceding or following. If you were o use a vertical movement for previous/next screen that would solve it.

  8. flattermann says:

You are right, the volume sliders are not perfect, yet.

There are two open tickets about the volume sliders that you may want to take a look at. Add a comment if you like:

  9. Lars says:

    Morgen!

I followed the “android market direct link” on the squeezecommander.com main page, but the search did not find your app. Neither did i find your app by searching for “squeezecommander”. I’m using HTC Tattoo

    Thanks in advance!
    Lars (Estonia)

  10. flattermann says:

Are other paid apps available in your Android Market?
Unfortunately, Google does not offer access to paid apps in all countries, yet. :-(

You may want to take a look at SlideME.
It’s an alternative to the Android Market that offers paid apps in almost all countries:

    https://slideme.org/application/squeeze-commander

  11. Lou Dolinar says:

Commander is a very nice Droid app, particularly the implementation of Pandora. One quick question: When I’m streaming Pandora through the Squeezebox, is the traffic routed through my wifi network or through the Droid? And if through the droid, is it connecting via wifi, which is active, or by the Verizon network? I just don’t be a bandwidth hog if I can avoid it.

  12. flattermann says:

If your Droid is connected to Wifi, it should be automatically used by your Droid for accessing Pandora.
The “Mobile Network” (2G/3G) should only be used if no Wifi is available.

  13. richard says:

Help! I have had the app for weeks and cannot get it to connect. Seems like a great thing but I need help getting started. I tried using the IP for server but it will not connect. how do I get this thing to work????

  14. flattermann says:

Normally, it should work out-of-the-box, without any additional settings. Ok, this is apparently not the case for you. :-)

Please give me some more info:

    * What kind of server do you have? A normal PC or a NAS?
    * Which OS is running on your server (e.g. Debian Linux)
    * Which SqueezeBoxServer version do you use? (e.g. 7.4.2)
    * When you open the browser on your mobile and open the page http://ip.of.your.server:9000, does the WebUI show up?
    * If you have some kind of firewall software on your server, you need to open port 9000 (TCP)

  15. richard says:

sb server runs on a vista laptop, flac files are on a nas streamed to a transporter. currently use 7.4.3.

not sure about the other questions

  16. flattermann says:

Please try to open the web page of the SBS.
The SBS normally runs on port 9000, so please try the following:

    * On the server (Vista laptop), open http://127.0.0.1:9000 in a browser. Does that work?

    * On the server (Vista laptop), open http://192.168.1.1:9000 (replace “192.168.1.1″ by your actual server IP) in a browser. Does that work?

    * On another computer or on your Android phone, open http://192.168.1.1:9000 (replace “192.168.1.1″ by your actual server IP) in the browser. Does that work?

If it does not work, please open the SBS Control Panel by right-clicking on the SqueezeBox icon in the system tray and open the tab “Diagnostics”.
Are there any problems stated on this page?
See http://www.flattermann.net/files/sbs-controlpanel.png for a screenshot of the control panel.

  17. richard says:

the first opened sbs. the second link failed. diagnostic shows mysqueezebox.com ping failed. i will grab my other computer and try the third request.

  18. richard says:

    now it says ping ok

  19. flattermann says:

If the second link failed (with the correct server IP as stated on the diagnostic screen), the third link will fail for sure. :-)

It seems as if your SBS is running fine (because you can open the WebUI via “local” IP, 127.0.0.1, i.e. the first link), but Windows is blocking external access to port 9000.

You need to open port 9000 (TCP) in your Windows firewall:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-a-port-in-Windows-Firewall

After opening the port, please try links 2 and 3 again.

If you’ve installed some kind of 3rd party firewall (besides the Windows firewall), you may need to also open the port in that application.

  20. richard says:

ok, i’m an idiot. the reason the third one did not work before is because i did not change the ip, now it works but i still cannot get our program to connect. i added the port 9000 and it had no impact.

  21. richard says:

when i try to connect to mysb.com on your ap, it says no player is connected to this server. connect a player or choose another server.

  22. flattermann says:

the reason the third one did not work before is because i did not change the ip, now it works but i still cannot get our program to connect. i added the port 9000 and it had no impact.

You can connect to http://your.server.ip:9000 from your other computer?
(That would mean that port 9000 on your Vista laptop is open. That’s a prerequisite for SqueezeCommander.)

If yes, please open the browser on your Android mobile and open the URL http://your.server.ip:9000 there. Does that work?

  23. flattermann says:

when i try to connect to mysb.com on your ap, it says no player is connected to this server. connect a player or choose another server.

Your players are probably connected to your local SBS. In this case, they do not appear on MySB.com.

First, let’s make the connection with your SBS work, after that, we can work on MySB.com, ok? :-)

  24. richard says:

sorry for the delay. i tried my server ip (which i think changed) on another computer and it did connect. i then tried to add that server to your ap and it failed. what next sir!?

  25. flattermann says:

Please open the browser on your Android mobile and open the URL (http://yourserverip:9000) there. Does that work?

  26. richard says:

i have been trying to do that and it will not load. i enter it in the bar and it starts accepting it but will not move off the page. wierd because it is not a total failure, just will not load, if that makes sense. how about uninstalling the ap and reisnstalling?

  27. flattermann says:

Hmm, if the page does not open correctly in your Android browser, it looks as if your Android mobile cannot connect correctly to your server.

That’s why I do not think it’s a problem of the SqueezeCommander installation, but something “deeper” in your Network setup.

But to make sure it’s not because of a faulty App installation, you can try to reinstall SqueezeCommander.

It that does not help, please try this:

    - Shutdown all components, preferably in this order: your Android Mobile / SqueezeBox / Server / WLAN Router
    - Restart all components in reverse order: WLAN Router / Server / SqueezeBox / Android Mobile

  28. richard says:

rebooted in order and still same thing. also reinstalled. when i open the ap it just says “loading…” but does not move off of that screen.

  29. flattermann says:

Your computer from which you could open the SBS Web interface is also connected through WLAN like your Android Mobile?
(Just to be sure that it’s not a WLAN issue…)

Have you manually added your server in SqueezeCommander? (Menu / Settings / Additional Servers)

  30. richard says:

    yes and yes

  31. flattermann says:

Could you please send me a log file?

    Here’s how it works:
    http://www.squeezecommander.com/trac/wiki/Logfile

  32. flattermann says:

    Richard,
Good to hear that it’s working now! :-)

  33. Bejje says:

  34. flattermann says:

Please take a look at SlideME market:

  35. Nikolaj Christensen says:

    Hi,

    Bought SQCMDR via SlideMe.org.

Do you know how updates are handled there?

  36. flattermann says:

    Nikolaj,

You can download the updates with SAM (the SlideME App).

    Christian

  37. Thomas says:

    Hi,
I just bought an Android phone, and I am trying to download the squeeze commander, but when I click on the link for my phone on the page it just says the file not found. Can you please help me, with what i am doing wrong??
    Best regards
    Thomas

  38. Thomas says:

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply :-)

    I’ll give it a try.

    Regards
    Thomas

  39. Clark says:

I don’t actually have a SqueezeBox, but I run the server to stream music to my Android phone. Will this app act as an actual player and let me hear the music or will it just control the server?

I ask because currently I’ve got a way to play the library and control the server but I’m using two separate apps. Does yours play audio?

  40. flattermann says:

    Clark,

SqueezeCommander does not act as a player, yet. It’s a planned feature, but not yet implemented:

    http://www.squeezecommander.com/trac/ticket/4

Of course you can connect to http://yourserverip:9000/stream.mp3 with your favourite streaming App and control the stream with SqueezeCommander (that’s probably what you are already doing).

    Christian

  41. Skip says:

I do have a Squeezebox, and I have nearly 1,000 albums digitized…and I can’t wait for your Android app to be a mobile player/Squeezebox companion so I can play my music on my phone through WiFi and on a 3G network. Do you have any estimated date when you think you’ll have that player feature implemented?

  42. flattermann says:

Unfortunately, I cannot give you an ETA for the player feature, yet.

I’m trying to implement a short term solution (based on stream.mp3) at the moment.
I’m not sure if this will work acceptably, but I’ll do my best.

In the long term, I’d like to implement a native player feature using the SqueezeBox protocol, but that’s very complicated and hence will take more time.

  43. Daniel says:

I used to be able to control my SB3 with SqC until about 2 weeks ago, but it doesn’t recognise any clients anymore. SqC successfully connects to Squeezebox Server on my Mac but then displays the message “no player is connected to this server”.

I can open the Squeezebox Server GUI 192.168.2.100:9000 via the Android browser and it shows my SB3 just like it does on my Mac. SqueezeDroid and SqueezeControl show my SB3 as well. Just SqC doesn’t show it (anymore).

I’m using a HTC Desire with Android 2.1 and software version 1.21.405.2. Any suggestions?

Btw. Is there a support forum other than this comment feature here and TRAC for bugs?

  44. flattermann says:

    Daniel,

There’s a thread in the Logitech/SlimDevices forum that is also used for support:

    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 (English)
    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69354 (German)

  45. Bob D. says:

Hello, like “richard” above, I’m having problems connecting to my SBS.

The error message is: Can’t connect to server

Im running v7.5.2 on a ReadyNAS (Raidiator 4.1.7)
    * When you open the browser on your mobile and open the page http://ip.of.your.server:9000, does the WebUI show up? –NO

    * If you have some kind of firewall software on your server, you need to open port 9000 (TCP) I do not believe there is any firewall on the RadyNAS and other PC’s on the network are able to connect.

    Thanks,
    BOB

  46. flattermann says:

    For the reference:
Bob’s problem was that his router denied network traffic between WLAN and LAN.

  47. nicolas says:

I use SqueezeCommander a lot. I barely touch my squeezebox remote.
Just a thing that is missing from my point of view : I use a lot bpa’s “find cover art” plugin. It helps me to directly download missing cover art.

I can use it from my logitech remote or my http interface, but unfortunately I did not find tis option on SqueezeCommander…
Did I miss it? Is it to be expected on a future release?

For me it would be a HUGE improvement :)

Thanks a lot for your work,

    Nicolas.

  48. flattermann says:

    Nicolas,

This does not work, yet, but it will probably work as soon as SqueezePlay menus are implemented:

    http://www.squeezecommander.com/trac/ticket/6

    Christian

  49. nicolas says:

    Nice :)
    Thanks Christian.

    Nicolas
